Creativity is important for learning because it allows students to think outside the box, explore new ideas, and develop innovative solutions to problems. In the article “Nurturing Musical Creativity Through Assessment for Learning,” published in the Music Educators Journal in June 2023, the authors explored how assessment can be used to promote creativity in music education. The article presented four strategies for using assessment for learning to support students in developing their creative skills.

The fourth and final strategy is to activate self-assessment. By encouraging students to assess their own work, teachers can help them develop a sense of ownership and agency over their creative process. This can involve providing opportunities for self-reflection, peer feedback, and goal-setting.
Overall, the article emphasizes the importance of using assessment for learning to support students in developing their creative skills.
